How to Use Google Analytics with Sharepoint
Google Analytics is a good “high-level” tool for understanding your web traffic. And it makes lots of pretty graphs and charts that clients love!
Google Analytics works really well on all kinds of websites and blogs. . . and on Sharepoint! Thanks to the way Sharepoint uses master pages, it’s really easy to add Google Analytics.
Simply signup for a Google Analytics account, and plug in GA’s javascript code just above the </head> tag in the master page for your top-level Sharepoint site.
Here’s the trick. . .
When you go back to Google Analytics to activate your new site, you need to provide the URL. Be sure to add the /default.aspx part of the URL after the domain name. For example, if your domain is www.mydomain.com, you would enter
www.mydomain.com/default.aspx
Basically, you want to use the full URL to your Sharepoint site home page.
Google Analytics gives you rich insights into your website traffic and marketing effectiveness. Powerful, flexible and easy-to-use features now let you see and analyze your traffic data in an entirely new way. With Google Analytics, you’re more prepared to write better-targeted ads, strengthen your marketing initiatives and create higher converting websites.
